When you’re visiting the Klinglerhof for a holiday on the farm in Saalbach / Maria Alm, the Hölzl family will welcome you wholeheartedly. The fortunes of the Klinglerhof are currently in the hands of Alois Hölzl, who maintains 350 ha of grounds, including a forestry in Saalfelden, together with his wife Marlene. The kids Anna and Elisabeth always help out diligently.
Illustrious history of the Saalfelden-based organic farm
The Klinglerhof’s long, storied history is particularly impressive. The farmhouse was built in 1773 as a single small farm, while its name has been traced back to Switzerland. Before the century had wound down, three more farms in close proximity had been purchased before the organic farm was extended in 1850. Ultimately, the four single farms became the Klinglerhof. Many moons ago, approx. 15 maidservants and farmhands were employed taking care of 120 cattle, six horses and 40 sheep. Today, only 50 cattle and five Noriker horses remain.
Agriculture in Saalfelden with mountain pasture and hunting operation
Among the vast Klinglerhof land are meadows, forests and 266 ha of mountain pasture with own hunting grounds. Per request, your host Alois Hölzl organises hunts for you including black rooster, chamois and red deer, which are also sold: chamois on a yearly, black rooster on a two-year basis. The proprietors of the farm in Saalfelden furthermore organise trips to the self-farmed Grundalm with cosy BBQ and overnight stay options.
